Turkmen Foreign Minister Meets Russian Counterpart in Moscow

Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across various sectors.

Details of the discussions were shared during a joint press conference following the talks, as published by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The diplomats reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the partnership in trade and economic fields, as well as in transport, infrastructure, and energy sectors. In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, they discussed joint projects including the establishment of a Turkmen-Russian university, the construction of a new building for the Pushkin Theater, and the expansion of a jointly operated school..

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Particular attention was given to preparations for the second "Central Asia–Russia" meeting, scheduled for October on the sidelines of the CIS summit in Tajikistan. The agenda also included events related to the Caspian Five format at both ministerial and high levels.

The ministers noted that over more than three decades of trade and economic relations, a wealth of experience has been accumulated, providing a solid foundation for further development of ties between Turkmenistan and various regions of the Russian Federation.

The talks confirmed the strong basis for advancing the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.
