Turkmenistan, IMF Discuss Economic Cooperation and Structural Reforms

Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Serdar Muhammetdurdyev met on Thursday with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Anna Rose Bordon, head of the IMF mission to Turkmenistan, according to the Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry.

The sides discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IMF, with a focus on technical assistance, advisory support, and capacity building. Particular attention was given to monitoring macroeconomic indicators, sharing statistical data, and advancing structural reforms aimed at ensuring the country’s sustainable economic development.

The parties also addressed global geopolitical instability and its impact on national economies, including external risks, trade outlook, and tariff regulation. Discussions included Turkmenistan’s accession process to the World Trade Organization, major infrastructure projects, and improving mechanisms for economic data exchange.

Bordon praised Turkmenistan’s efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability and welcomed the constructive nature of the ongoing dialogue with the country’s authorities.

The meeting placed a strong emphasis on strengthening foreign economic relations, discussing bilateral agreements, and advancing infrastructure initiatives.
