Turkmenistan and OSCE to Hold Regional Conference on Preventive Diplomacy

Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), will host a regional conference on preventive diplomacy in Ashgabat on May 27–28, 2025. The event will focus on preventive diplomacy, the implementation of the UN Security Council’s Women, Peace and Security agenda, and relevant UNSC resolutions.

According to Turkmenistan’s state media, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported on the preparations during a Cabinet meeting on Saturday.

Meredov noted that cooperation with the OSCE is carried out under an annual action plan and encompasses political, economic, environmental, and humanitarian dimensions. Among the new initiatives is the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan’s Mejlis in the 32nd OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session, set to take place from June 29 to July 3, 2025, in Porto, Portugal. A side event is proposed to mark the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.

Additionally, a Turkmen delegation is scheduled to visit Warsaw on June 9 for meetings with representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). Another platform for dialogue will be the OSCE Secretary General’s forum with Central Asian border service heads, to be held June 18–19 in Istanbul.

Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with international organizations, including the OSCE, and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue advancing cooperation.

A number of domestic policy issues were also reviewed during the meeting of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers.
