Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Invites German President to Visit Turkmenistan

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, invited German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to visit Turkmenistan during a phone call, Turkmen state media reported on Wednesday.

The two leaders discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening a broad partnership. Promising areas of collaboration included the chemical industry, transportation, healthcare, agriculture, and textiles. The Turkmen side proposed expanding ties with major German companies such as BASF, MAN, Deutsche Bahn, Siemens, Knauf, and others.

Berdimuhamedov noted that, at Ashgabat’s initiative, the UN General Assembly declared 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan expressed hope that President Steinmeier would attend an international forum in Ashgabat on December 12, which will also mark the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.

Turkmenistan also expressed interest in working with Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH and Schachtbau Nordhausen GmbH on the development of the Garlyk mining complex. New areas for cooperation include the green economy, water resource management, and renewable energy. Banking partnerships were also discussed, including prospects for cooperation with Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also touched on cultural and humanitarian ties, noting the success of the “Margiana” archaeological exhibition in Germany and expressing readiness to organize a second installment of the display.

The leaders concluded the conversation by exchanging well wishes and voicing confidence in the continued strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries.
