Hero of Turkmenistan Kononenko Sets World Record for Space Duration

Oleg Kononenko, Hero of Turkmenistan and commander of the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps, has achieved a remarkable milestone by breaking the world record for the total duration of stay in space. 

According to the TASS news agency's report on Sunday, Kononenko accomplished this record on February 4, 2024, logging an impressive 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds in space.

Currently embarked on his fifth space flight, Kononenko is anticipated to make history on June 5, 2024, at 00:00:20 Moscow time, becoming the first person to spend 1,000 days in space. By the conclusion of his annual expedition, his cumulative time in space will reach an astounding 1,110 days.Born on June 21, 1964, in Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, Oleg Kononenko initiated his space exploration journey in April 2008. Following his initial expedition, he earned the titles of Hero of the Russian Federation and Pilot-Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation. In September 2019, he was honored with the title of Hero of Turkmenistan.
