President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

In the future, the annual volume of Turkmen natural gas exports to China will reach 100 billion cubic meters, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during an event dedicated to the start of construction of new wells at the Galkynysh gas field located in the country’s Mary velayat.

During a working trip to Mary velayat on Monday, the Turkmen Leader visited the world’s second largest gas field Galkynysh, where he launched the construction of new complex wells, the country’s official media reports.

During his speech at the ceremony, the Head of State noted the potential of increasing bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and China in different fields, the implementation of which meets not only mutual interests, but also the development goals of the entire Central Asian region.

The Head of State expressed gratitude to all employees of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), which have undertaken the construction of new wells, for their contribution to increasing the export of Turkmen gas to China.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan presently supplies 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China annually, and in accordance with the signed agreement, the country plans to supply 65 billion cubic meters of gas, stressing that this is not the limit. The Turkmen Leader added that in the future, the volume of natural gas exports to China will reach 100 billion cubic meters.

Galkynysh field is one of the raw material sources of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, which was commissioned in December 2009. At the moment, there are 45 wells in the operating fund of the field, whose area is more than 4 thousand square kilometers and the flow rate of each of them, on average, is equal to two million cubic meters of gas per day. Upon completion of the construction of new wells at the field, the industrial gas flow rate of each well is expected to be around 3 million cubic meters per day.
