New Water Reservoir Opens in Turkmenistan’s Bereket Etrap

The water reservoir was built at the 1096th kilometer of the Karakum River.

A new reservoir was put into operation in Bereket etrap of Turkmenistan’s western velayat of Balkan. The reservoir is designed to supply water from the Karakum River to the agricultural fields of the country’s western region, the country’s official media reports.

The opening ceremony gathered members of the government, representatives of public organizations and the media, according to the report.

The reservoir, with a capacity of 18 million cubic meters, was built at the 1096th kilometer of the Karakum River. The barrages and dams of the reservoir was built using building materials from local quarries. In particular, 167.5 thousand cubic meters of gravel were used in the construction of the barrages and dams. The total length of the barrages and dams is more than 7.8 kilometers. In addition to the main production facilities, road and energy infrastructure facilities were also built as part of the project.

The commissioning of a new water management complex, with the throughput of 10 cubic meters of water per second, will increase the reliability of water supply for irrigation of arable lands of Bereket etrap, according to the report.

Türkmensuwylymtaslama Institute prepared the project of this hydrotechnical complex, and Garagumderýagurluşyk Production Association of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan carried out its construction.
