Construction of Ring Power System Underway in Turkmenistan

The second stage of the construction of the ring system includes the laying of 567-kilometer 500 kV power transmission line from Balkanabat to Dashoguz.

Construction of the first stage of the ring power transmission system, which will connect the electric networks of Turkmenistan’s Ahal, Balkan and Dashoguz velayats, is gaining momentum. In the first section of the power system, the general contractor of the system – Türkmenenergogurluşyk (Turkmen Energy Construction) Concern – has laid all the foundations and installed more than 500 metal supports for a 220 kV high-voltage line.

In the second section, from the Serdar substation to Balkanabat, the builders also finished laying reinforced concrete foundations and installed over 350 metal structures for power transmission lines, the official media of Turkmenistan reported on Tuesday.

In August, the engineers plan to complete the installation of 1,426 supports, which are necessary for the first stage of the ring power network and the construction of the Serdar-220, Gyzylarbat-110 and Balkan-500 electrical substations.

Within the implementation of the project, the builders will install power transformers, switches, disconnectors, relay protection and automation, telemechanics, communications and SCADA systems manufactured according to European standards by companies in Turkey, Kazakhstan and India.

The completion of the construction of the circular energy system of Turkmenistan, is scheduled for 2023. The implementation of the project, approved by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is aimed at increasing the production of electricity, improving the quality of energy saving and improving the social and living conditions of the population, and significantly increasing the export potential of the industry.
