China imported Turkmen gas worth $2.4 billion for the period of January-March of the current year, TASS reported on Wednesday citing China's Customs Administration.
Turkmenistan currently exports its natural gas to China via three pipelines passing along the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China route. The pipeline system is capable of transporting 55 bcm of gas a year.
In the period of January to November of last year, China imported Turkmen gas worth $8.82 billion.
In April of last year, the former Chairman of Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas), Batyr Amanov, announced that Turkmenistan would increase its natural gas supplies to China to 65 billion cubic meters per year after the introduction of the fourth gas pipeline.
