Turkmen President Proposes SCO Countries to Implement Joint Energy Projects

Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan supplies its natural gas to Russia, China and neighboring countries.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his speech at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Uzbek city Samarkand on Friday proposed to start planning joint projects to diversify the energy supplies to meet the needs of the SCO countries as well as with the prospect of entering foreign markets.

President Berdimuhamedov stated that Turkmenistan is ready for a systematic and long-term cooperation with the SCO in the energy sphere, the official Turkmen media reports.

According to President Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan has all the necessary resources to significantly increase the volume of such supplies, and over many years the Turkmen side has gained a solid international experience in energy cooperation.

Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan supplies its natural gas to Russia, China and neighboring countries, and is also actively working on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.

"Here I would like to emphasize the importance of Afghanistan’s participation in these and other multilateral projects as a key factor in rebuilding its economy and social sphere and, ultimately, in achieving peace and harmony,” the Turkmen President Berdimuhammedov stated, adding that, “We also consider it a priority to provide comprehensive economic and humanitarian support to the brotherly Afghan people".
