Turkmenistan’s Q1 Foreign Trade Turnover Surges 40.9%

In the first quarter, both the exports and imports saw an increase compared to the same period last year.

The foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan in the first three months of 2022 surged 40.9% year-on-year, the Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government in charge of economic and financial issues Muhammetguly Muhammedov announced in his report during a cabinet meeting hosted by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday.

In the first quarter, both the exports and imports saw an increase compared to the same period last year. The increases are a result of implemented foreign economic policy based on principles of mutual benefit and wide international cooperation, the official Turkmen media reports with reference to the Vice-Premier’s briefing.

In his report on macroeconomic indicators for January-March 2022, Muhammedov informed that the volume of production as compared to the same period last year increased by 11.1%.

In the first three months of this year, the retail trade turnover saw a year-on-year increase of 10.4%.

The size of salaries on large and medium enterprises of the country in comparison with the corresponding period of 2021 increased by 10.4%.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, addressing the meeting participants, said the results of the work done in the first quarter of this year demonstrate the consistent development of Turkmenistan in accordance with the adopted programs. He added that since the beginning of the year, the growth in gross domestic product has been stable at 6.2%.

The Head of State instructed Muhammetguly Muhammedov and other deputies of the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers to analyze all sectoral programs adopted in different years and in order to improve them, within a month to consider and prepare proposals to bring them in conformity with the Program of Social and Economic Development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052.

The government meeting summed up the results of development of the national economy in the first quarter of this year, featured reports of the deputy chairmen of the cabinet and regional governors and assessed their activities and defined the priorities of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan for the coming period.
