Turkmenistan plans to introduce new customs duty on export of recyclable paper waste from August 1, 2021.
During an online meeting of Cabinet of Minister of Turkmenistan on Friday, Vice-Premier Chary Gylyjov reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the measures to streamline the export of recyclable paper, the country’s official media reports.
Members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan are building and commissioning new production facilities, including enterprises for the production of paper products, which produce containers for packaging food and industrial products, as well as consumer goods such as wet and dry napkins and student notebooks, according to the report.
Most of these enterprises specialize in the processing of secondary raw materials, with their recycling capacity exceeding 22 thousand tons of paper waste annually, Chary Gylyjov noted.
The Vice-Premier then proposed to introduce a new customs duty on export of recyclable paper waste from August 1, 2021 in order to more effectively use the potential of enterprises for the production of paper products, taking into account the increased demand for paper and cardboard containers within the country, and regulating the export and sale of paper waste abroad.
Following the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the need for further detailed study of this issue, paying special attention to the environmental aspect.
The recycling of paper is the process by which waste paper is turned into new paper products. Many different kinds of paper can be recycled, including white office paper, newspaper, cardboard, magazines, catalogs, and phone books.
