UNOPS Office to Open in Turkmenistan

The UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Director of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) appealed to the Turkmen side with a proposal to open the UNOPS office in the country, according to the Vice-Premier, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov’s report to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a government meeting on Friday.

In the context of the continuation of the established multifaceted cooperation UN, a project on cooperation in healthcare field was submitted to Turkmen President for consideration, official Turkmen state media reports. The project is planned to be implemented jointly with the UNOPS.

Having approved the project and the proposal to open a UNOPS representative office, the Turkmen President instructed to carry out relevant work in this direction.

Turkmenistan is presently a member of 11 UN organs.

Established in 1973, the UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations, dedicated to implementing projects for the United Nations System, international financial institutions, governments and other partners around the world.
