Turkmen Farmers Started Sowing Potatoes

A total of 1,500 hectares of land have been allocated for the spring planting of potatoes in Lebap velayat.

Farmers in Turkmenistan started sowing potatoes on several thousand hectares of fertile land, Turkmenistan’s Golden Age news outlet reported on Tuesday.

Due to favorable weather conditions, farmers in Lebap velayat were among the first to start sowing.

Tebigy Ekin company in Charjev etrap will plant potatoes in more than 420 hectares of land and Jadyly Mukam company will plant potatoes in more than 40 hectares of land, according to the Lebap velayat branch of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

Private entrepreneurs of Sayat and Dyanev etraps – Babamurat Dovranov and Nurmurat Nuriyev – prepared forty hectares of land for potato sowing.

Most of the sown area for this crop was allocated in Charjev and Dyanev etraps of the velayat. A total of 1,500 hectares of land have been allocated for the spring planting of potatoes in the velayat. The farmers intend to collect an average of 140 centners of the crop from each hectare of these fields, much more than last year, according to the report.

Private farms of Ahal and Mary velayats also started sowing potatoes. In late spring, the farmers of the velayat expect to harvest potato from more than three thousand hectares of land.
