Ashgabat, Kuala Lumpur Intend to Intensify Cooperation in Hydrocarbon Sector

Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Malaysia also considered possibilities of building up partnerships between the countries in the fields of information and communication technologies and digitalization of the economy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held an online meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Sri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein on Tuesday.

According to Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s press release, the foreign ministers of the two countries discussed a wide range of issues of multilateral and bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, energy and humanitarian fields. The parties reaffirmed the mutual interest to further build up contacts within the framework of authoritative international organizations, primarily the UN.

The diplomats noted the need to intensify cooperation in the oil and gas sector, where there is a huge potential for joint implementation. The sides also considered possibilities of building up partnerships between the countries in the fields of information and communication technologies and digitalization of the economy.

According to the statement, the humanitarian component of the Turkmen-Malaysian relations was especially noted, where the sides have extensive experience and solid potential for deepening effective cooperation in education, science and culture, as well as in the field of health.

The officials expressed mutual interest in strengthening contacts between representatives of public and private structures of the two countries for holding joint events contributing to the strengthening and expansion of bilateral contacts between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in all areas of interest.
