Turkmenistan Increases Production Potential of Its Textile Industry

Turkmenistan increased the area for cotton cultivation from 550 thousand hectares to 620 thousand hectares this year.

The construction of two new textile complexes is underway in Turkmenistan’s Ahal velayat. Each of the facilities will be capable of processing 5,000 tons of fine staple cotton per year, the Ahal Durmuşy newspaper reported on Friday.

In general, Turkmenistan invested about $2 billion in the construction of new and reconstruction of existing textile factories. For the period 2015-2019, the growth in production in the country's textile industry amounted to 142.7 %. The country exports about 70 % of its textile products to the CIS countries, Europe and Asia.

The introduction of innovative technologies allows industry enterprises to increase production volumes. Thus, over the nine months of this year, a cotton spinning enterprise in the Turkmengala etrap of Mary velayat produced more than 4,434 tons of cotton fiber, which was successfully supplied to domestic textile enterprises and a number of foreign countries.

Cotton growing as one of the priority areas of the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan ensures the successful implementation of state programs for import substitution and increasing the country's export potential.

Turkmenistan increased the area for cotton cultivation from 550 thousand hectares to 620 thousand hectares this year, planning to harvest 1.25 million tons of the crop from the plots. Private agricultural producers are also actively involved in this agricultural sector.
