Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on Wednesday organized a virtual forum on supporting the revival of private sector in Central Asia countries, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan said in a statement.
The ministerial-level forum was attended by senior government officials from seven countries participating in the OECD Central Asia Initiative, responsible for the development and implementation of anti-crisis measures, representatives of the private sector, international experts, representatives of the European Union, OECD and many other international organizations.
The Turkmen delegation was represented by the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy.
During the event, the Director of OECD Global Relations Andreas Schaal, EU Special Representative for Central Asia Ambassador Peter Burian, heads of delegations of the countries participating in the OECD Central Asia Initiative gave speeches.
The head of the Turkmen delegation highlighted the measures implemented by the Government to support the national economy and discussed the possibilities of cooperation within the framework of Turkmenistan’s Country Preparedness and Response Plan to the pandemic, including the search for joint solutions and the development of anti-crisis policies.
A discussion on the measures taken by the Governments of Central Asian countries to support the national economy and revive private sector was also held during the session.
The meeting participants then took part in a survey on negative impacts associated with the coronavirus crisis and measures to overcome them. After the survey, the participants exchanged views on further actions to support small and medium-sized enterprises after the crisis and on the possible impact of the crisis on medium and long-term SME policy priorities.
