Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan Discuss Implementation of Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Project

The cable line with the total length of 300 km will allow the transmission of data with a capacity of at least 2-4 terabit per second.

Türkmentelekom, a national telecommunications company in Turkmenistan, on Friday held a video conference meeting with AzerTelecom LLC, a telecommunication operator in Azerbaijan.

The meeting participants exchanged views on the implementation of the interstate agreement on the laying of fiber-optic cable between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan through the bottom of the Caspian Sea.

The sides noted that the implementation of this project will connect the cities of Turkmenbashi and Siyazan, and will also strengthen cooperation in improving telecommunication bridges between Asia and Europe.

The Turkmen side has prepared proposals for the implementation of the project, which are presented for consideration and coordination of economic, technical and other relevant aspects.

In April, the Azerbaijani side approved the interstate agreement that envisages the laying of fiber-optic cable between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan through the bottom of the Caspian Sea.

The cable line with the total length of 300 km will allow the transmission of data with a capacity of at least 2-4 terabit per second.
