Turkmenistan Targets 6.5% GDP Growth in 2023

The Head of State informed that about 3 thousand new jobs will be created this year through the construction of modern enterprises.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday at an expanded meeting of the country's Cabinet of Ministers devoted to the results of the last year approved the Program of Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2023, which is aimed at increasing the country’s GDP by 6.5 percent this year, according to the country’s official media.

In accordance with this document, it is also envisaged to steadily develop the sectors of the national economy and regions of the country, achieve the output of industrial enterprises at full capacity, and create about 3 thousand new jobs through the construction of modern enterprises, President Berdimuhamedov told meeting participants.

At the same time, Turkmenistan aims to increase the volume of its foreign trade turnover to $19.4 billion, the Head of Turkmenistan added.

There are also plans to develop small and medium-sized businesses. The share of the private sector in the GDP structure (not including the fuel-energy complex) is expected to be increased to 71.3 percent.

The document was approved in order to successfully implement the Program of the President of Turkmenistan on the socio-economic development of the country in 2022-2028.

Turkmenistan achieved the GDP growth rate of 6.2 percent in 2022.
