Turkmenistan Supplied 350 bcm of Gas to China: President Berdimuhamedov

Focusing on the promising sectors of the Turkmen-Chinese cooperation, Berdimuhamedov singled out the fuel-energy sphere.

The Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline has transported more than 350 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China so far, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said in his article titled "The foundation of a strategic partnership," published in the major state newspaper of China Renmin Ribao.

The Head of Turkmenistan is currently on a state visit to China.

Focusing on the promising sectors of the Turkmen-Chinese cooperation, Berdimuhamedov singled out the fuel-energy sphere.

"The Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline commissioned in late 2009 has become the largest joint energy project implemented on the Asian continent. To date, more than 350 billion cubic meters of natural gas has been supplied through it," Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

According to the Turkmen President, "the gas pipeline has become an example of political responsibility, economic realism and foresighted approach of the leadership of the two countries to address global issues of energy development.”

"It is deeply logical in this regard that China has been and continues to provide effective support for Turkmenistan's initiatives to establish international mechanisms for reliable protection and security of energy supplies," Serdar Berdimuhamedov added.

He expressed confidence that "in this context, the successful implementation of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline project becomes a prototype of the entire future architecture of the international energy partnership.

Turkmenistan is one of the world's top four countries in terms of gas reserves along with Russia, Iran and Qatar. China is the largest buyer of Turkmen natural gas.
