Turkmen and Georgian Officials Hold Energy Talks in Tbilisi

The parties expressed their willingness to continue mutual cooperation and expressed their desire to dynamically develop the joint work process.

George Chikovani, the General Director of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC), the Georgian state-owned enterprise, and the Turkmen delegation led by Yusup Amansariyev, the Head of the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan (SCRMET), discussed the current situation and future plans in the energy sector at the GOGC headquarters in Tblisi on Friday.

The delegation of Turkmenistan consisted of the management of the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries, and representatives of the Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern, state agencies and business sector. Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Georgia Dovletmurat Muratov also took part in the meeting, according to the GOGC press release.

The Turkmen delegation received information about the potential of the energy field in Georgia and the transit role of the country in the region.

The sides also exchanged views on the simplification of Turkmen oil product transit procedures and increasing their volumes, as well as the import of Turkmen petroleum products, and the joint implementation of infrastructure projects related to refining and storage of oil products.

George Chikovani familiarized the visitors with the principles of operation of GOGC, its agenda and the planned activities.

The representative of Türkmengaz emphasized the necessity of enhancement of successful activities initiated between the two countries in the trade of natural gas and its derivative products.

The parties expressed their willingness to continue mutual cooperation and expressed their desire to dynamically develop the joint work process.

In mid-October, GOGC and Türkmengaz reached a preliminary agreement on deliveries of Turkmen natural gas and oil to Georgia.
