The European Union remains committed to strengthening relations with Turkmenistan, Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, said in his congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan addressed to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

In the letter, the European Council President expressed congratulations and wishes for success to President Berdimuhamedov, and peace and prosperity to the people of the country, the official Turkmen media reports.

“We also appreciate Turkmenistan's willingness to cooperate in the European Union-Central Asia format in the framework of the EU Strategy for Central Asia and look forward to fruitful exchanges in this format,” Charles Michel added.

According to the European Council President, the forthcoming joint conference on green energy and methane emissions reduction, to be held in November in Ashgabat, demonstrates the EU’s commitment to cooperate closely with Turkmenistan.

Last month, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov presented to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposals to intensify the country’s interaction with the EU in trade-economic, energy, transport-communications, humanitarian-cultural and environmental spheres and to strengthen the legal framework of the partnership. Following the brief, President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the development of constructive dialogue with the EU is one of the key vectors of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan.
