Kyrgyzstan Imports Turkmen Electricity Worth $30.8 Million in Jan-Jul

Turkmen electricity accounted for 75 percent of total electricity imports of Kyrgyzstan during the seven-month period.

Kyrgyzstan imported 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity worth $30.8 million from Turkmenistan in January-July months of this year, according to the report published by the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic on Tuesday.

Turkmen electricity accounted for 75 percent of total electricity imports of Kyrgyzstan during the seven-month period. Thus, Turkmenistan became the main supplier of electricity to Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan purchased a total of 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-July of 2022.

Kyrgyzstan’s other major supplier of electricity is Kazakhstan, which exported more than 423 million kilowatt-hours worth $6 million in the first seven months of 2022.

Turkmenistan has been exporting electricity to Kyrgyzstan in transit through Uzbekistan since August 2021.
