In July 2019, Gazprom signed a five-year contract to purchase natural gas from the Turkmen state-owned natural gas producer Türkmengaz State Concern.
The Russian energy giant Gazprom purchased 10.6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas from Turkmenistan in 2021, Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday citing the Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov as saying during a press briefing.
In July 2019, Gazprom signed a five-year contract to purchase natural gas from the Turkmen state-owned natural gas producer Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern (for the period through June 30, 2024). The contract envisages purchase of 5.5 bcm of Turkmen gas by Gazprom a year.
The purchase of Turkmen natural gas under the existing contract and expansion of cooperation in this area on a long-term basis were discussed in late August at a meeting between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller.
Gazprom representative office has been working in Turkmenistan since 2003.
Turkmenistan is one of the largest gas resource holders in the Caspian region and has the world's fourth largest proven natural gas reserves.
