A meeting of a special government commission on the accession of Turkmenistan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will take place in Turkmenistan on April 15.
A special government commission had been created in Turkmenistan in 2019 to study the possibility of country’s accession to the WTO. Based on the results of its meetings, as well as consultations with representatives of the organization and international experts, it was stated that the country's participation in the WTO as an observer as a first step will create optimal opportunities for modernizing the national economy.
This issue and preparation of relevant data will be discussed in the upcoming meeting.
Trade relations are one of the priorities of the foreign economic policy of Turkmenistan. The country attaches particular importance to cooperation with the WTO.
Within the framework of partnership with international organizations, an important place is also given to the implementation of the policy of building up the country's trade and export potential.
The WTO, headquartered in Geneva, was founded in 1995.
