Turkmenbashi International Seaport, Turkmenistan
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday within the framework of his visit to Turkmenistan’s western province of Balkan visited Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
President Berdimuhamedov was briefed on the work of the port and the equipment of its terminals by Mammethan Chakiyev, the General Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov then got acquainted with the work of customs and border services, where all the work is based on the modern best practices and the digital system, which provides an accurate, efficient and high quality performance of tasks, the country's official media reports.
The vice-premiers Esenmyrat Orazgeldiyev and Chary Gylyjov briefed on the work on reception of food products in the port and on the export of goods of agro-industrial complex as well as on the effective use of port capacities by domestic entrepreneurs.
Last year, the bulk cargo terminal of the port shipped 2.8 million tons of such products, which amounted to 94% of utilization of the terminal’s capacity.
In the first quarter of this year, the port’s general cargo terminal significantly increased its indicators compared to the same period last year, handling 221 thousand tons of the cargo.
Emphasizing the importance of Turkmenbashi International Seaport in increasing the export potential of the country, the President gave specific instructions for effective work of the transit corridors in the implementation of export-import operations.
The Head of State also inspected the activities of the Balkan shipyard.
During the trip to the western province, the Head of State also held an off-site cabinet meeting at the Congress Center located on the coast of Caspian Sea.
The Turkmenbashi International Seaport is located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe. An average of 1,500-1,600 ships call at the port annually.
