President-elect of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov
The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov won the presidential elections in Turkmenistan, receiving 72.97% of the votes, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan announced on Tuesday.
"In accordance with Article 76 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan and on the basis of the decision of the Central Election Commission dated March 14, 2022, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Gurbangulyevich Berdimuhamedov, who received 72.97% of the votes, is recognized as the President-elect of Turkmenistan," the commission said in its press release.
The commission added that the voter turnout in the March 12 early presidential elections amounted to 97.17% with nearly 3.4 million citizens participating in the polls.
Nine candidates ran for the presidency, eight of them received from 1.08% to 11,09% of the votes, according to the results announced by the results announced by the Turkmen Central Election Commission.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov was nominated for the highest state post by the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan.
The inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of Turkmenistan will be held at the Oguzhan Palace Complex in capital Ashgabat on March 19.
