Turkmenistan Should Strengthen Purchasing Power of Its Currency: President Berdimuhamedov

Money must always function stably, the Head of State stated.

The main objective of the monetary and credit policy of Turkmenistan should be to strengthen the purchasing power of the national currency, supporting the industrial and innovative development of the country, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during the working meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting on further improvement of the country's banking system was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers in charge of the financial and economic sphere, the Minister of Finance and Economy and the heads of banking institutions.

During the meeting, the Minister of Finance and Economy Muhammetgeldi Serdarov briefed on the activities aimed at increasing the volume of investments. Chairman of the Central Bank Gadirgeldi Mushshikov briefed on the results of the work carried out last year and activities planned for 2022.

Following the reports, the Turkmen Leader said economic growth is ensured at a sufficiently high and stable level and that it amounted to 6.2% last year.

Money must always function stably, the Head of State stated, adding that to this end, the main task of the Central Bank and the entire banking system is to maintain the balance of money in the economy, to ensure constant control in this direction.

In order to increase the investment activity of the country, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said it is necessary to continue financing projects implemented by small and medium-size enterprises. In this regard, we need to actively cooperate with international financial institutions, especially the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank Group and the Asian Development Bank, the Turkmen President stated.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated the Action Strategy for the Development of Turkmenistan for 2022-2052 should provide for improving the quality and range of digital banking services to the population.
