The members of the Tajik parliament ratified the agreement between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of railway transport, the press service of the Tajik parliament said in its Monday press release.
The agreement provides for the linking by rail of Tajikistan with Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi International Seaport on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
The Tajik parliament said the agreement will help strengthen bilateral cooperation and increase trade between the countries, adding that transit railroads and Turkmenbashi port will provide access to the Caspian Sea and help establish transport links with Europe.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in a talks in Ashgabat in August said the use of a wide range of opportunities in industry, transport sphere, the increase in international freight traffic by road and rail through Turkmenistan, the use of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport as a logistics center for transit cargo of Tajikistan will be in the interests of both sides.
The official of Turkish and Tajik state railway companies in a meeting in Dushanbe last Friday discussed the organization of container train transportation in the direction of Turkey-Turkmenistan-China via Tajikistan and the operation of direct conventional and container trains between Tajikistan-Turkey. The meeting resulted in the signing of the protocol to this end.
