The Ferhar company hopes the exotic plant will begin to bear fruit intensively.
Ferhar Economic Society, specializing in the production of exotic fruits for Turkmenistan, started testing cultivation of papaya in its greenhouse in Mary velayat’s Sakarchage etrap.
This tropical fruit tree, which is cultivated for the first in Turkmenistan, requires special tall greenhouses like banana tree, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) said in its report on Thursday.
The greenhouse specialists hope the exotic plant will not only adapt to the facility’s conditions, but also begin to bear fruit intensively.
Ferhar is the first company in Turkmenistan to launch commercial production of bananas. The company started its activity in November 2017, and received its first banana harvest in March 2019.
The greenhouse presently grows about 2,000 banana trees, which fully ripen in 4-5 months. Each tree yields 40-50 kilograms of tropical fruits.
The company aims to receive 70 tons of banana harvest this year.
