Tatneft Expected to Repair Around 300 Oil Wells in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan studies experience of foreign companies in workover of wells for the effective extraction of oil reserves.

The Russian oil and gas company Tatneft is expected to participate in the repair and commissioning of at least 300 idle and scheduled for closure wells.

The relevant proposal on conclusion of the additional agreement between the Türkmennebit (Turkmen Oil) State Concern and Tatneft company based in Russia’s Tatarstan Republic was presented to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a working meeting on Wednesday.

The working meeting gathered some deputy chairmen of the Turkmen cabinet, heads of the structures of the country’s oil and gas complex, and representatives of the Tatneft who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the 26th Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan International Conference, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The meeting participants discussed further development of the oil and gas industry, increasing oil production at the country's fields, and identified prospects for increasing cooperation with the Tatneft.

The Chairman of Türkmennebit Guychgeldi Baygeldiyev said the Goturdepe field, due to its complex geological structure and numerous faults, is divided into four sections – Central, Western, Eastern and Northern. The Head of the State Concern informed about the recoverable oil reserves in the field, and about its productive horizons.

Briefing on the experience of foreign companies in workover of wells for the effective extraction of oil reserves, Baygeldiyev presented the proposal prepared jointly with Tatneft to the Head of State. The Chairman of the Türkmennebit said the current contract provides for the conclusion of an Additional Agreement for the repair and commissioning of at least 300 idle and scheduled for closure wells.

The seismic exploration works allowed to create a unified database and a three-dimensional model of the Goturdepe field, and laying of 52 exploration wells. Such works are also expected to be implemented at the Altynguyi field, within the framework of cooperation with Tatneft.

Following the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave specific instructions on the discovery of new oil fields and their effective development.

In turn, the head of Tatneft Nail Maganov briefed the Turkmen President on the activities carried out in accordance with the contracts concluded with the Türkmennebit at numerous fields in Western Turkmenistan.

Maganov also voiced a number of specific proposals aimed at implementing the energy strategy of the Head of State. He presented specific projects, the implementation of which in the future will double the volume of oil production in the fields of Turkmenistan.

Addressing the Vice-Premier Shahym Abdrahmanov and Head of the Türkmennebit Guychgeldi Baygeldiyev, the Head of Turkmenistan focused on promising tasks to increase crude oil production and fulfill approved plans.

Tatneft has been operating in Turkmenistan since 2008. In January, the company launched its site for the repair of tubing pipes in Turkmenistan’s city of Balkanabat.
